Volunteering for SOAR

Why should you become a SOAR volunteer?

SOAR volunteers gain personal satisfaction from being active, responsible participants in the community in which they live. Their satisfaction comes from serving on a committee or a task force that has direct impact on the quality of their lives and the lives of their neighbors. Their activism helps to keep the Streeterville neighborhood a viable neighborhood, which is people friendly, safe, attractive and changing for the good of all its residents. For example, the presence of SOAR volunteers at community meetings has had an impact on architects, builders, and city planners to the extent that they have influenced the outcome of the size and shape of real estate, affected the retention or elimination of certain zoning codes and encouraged serious study of traffic flow in the community before a building is erected. SOAR volunteers give back to the community by sharing their talents in writing, organizing, gardening, fund raising, benefit planning, real estate, finance, computer technology, love of art, love of nature, love of socializing and in return are able to live in the kind of community they prefer.

Who can volunteer?

Any individual, over the age of 18, who is a resident of the Streeterville community, which is bounded by Lake Shore Drive on the East and North, the Chicago River on the South, and Rush Street on the West, can become a volunteer.

Membership in the organization is preferred, but not a requirement.
