Highlights of the First Quarter, Onto the Second

In the first quarter of 2017, SOAR actively planned and implemented programs to help
keep Streeterville a safe
, healthy and beautiful neighborhood to live, work enjoy. Here are some of SOAR's first quarter highlights:
  • Hosted a volunteer recognition celebration and New Year Kickoff at Green River
  • Provided a community voice as host of two Town Hall meetings with Alderman Brian Hopkins of the 2nd Ward and Alderman Brendan Reilly of the 42nd Ward to address neighborhood issues such as traffic congestion and safety.
  • Held multiple meetings with City of Chicago government and police officials, Chicago Park District representatives, business, institutional and cultural leaders, as well as local real estate developers. In all of these meetings, we shared resident concerns and expressed our appreciation for their stewardship in Streeterville
  • Conducted a membership social event at Café Coco Pazzo's new location on Ohio.
  • Continued to keep the neighborhood informed through the monthly SOAR eNewsand eWeekly updates

Now, in the second quarter of the year, we will be implementing many exciting activities as well:
  • We will be launching our Membership Renewal Campaign this week. Be on the lookout for an email notification. We thank you for your continuing support.
  • SOAR will complete the upgrade of a new membership software program to improve member communications. The interactive renewal process will be easier and more efficient with the new program.
  • The SOAR Garden Club is preparing the gardens for the 21st beautiful season at Lake Shore Park.
  • On May 30, we will host another Safety Forum at Northwestern University's Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center.
  • On June 6, the Third Annual SOAR Farmers Market at the MCA Plaza will open. This year's Market is sure to be a winner again, with 20 different vendors and 44 vendor tents. The Market will also feature monthly culinary demonstrations from local chefs this year. And we are very pleased to welcome our sponsors, the MCA, Northwestern University, Northwestern Medicine, Wintrust Bank, and The Clare. There's more exciting news to come in the second quarter, so stay tuned!
On behalf of the Board, membership and staff, I would like to send best wishes for a happy and healthy retirement to two longtime champions of SOAR, Rosemarie Wert, Co-Founder of Community Specialists, and Gloria Bowman, Director of Business Development at The Clare. Rosemarie initiated Community Specialists' sponsorship of SOAR publications beginning in the 1990's and continuing to this day. With Gloria's coordinating efforts, The Clare was a founding co-sponsor of the SOAR Farmers Market and sponsored many other special events. We are very appreciative of their support.

As always, I will be happy to hear your ideas and respond to your questions and comments when you reach me at dgershbein@soarchicago.org
