Mayor Emanuel Proclaims SOAR Day!

Shortly before the start of BLUEPRINTs on September 25, we learned that the day belonged to SOAR, literally and figuratively. In a proclamation sent from his office, Mayor Emanuel wrote:

WHEREAS, Streeterville is a unique, dynamic and complex Chicago community that functions as an economic engine of the City and relies upon a balance between residential, business, institutional and tourist interests; and

WHEREAS, Streeterville Organization of Active Residents was founded in Chicago in 1975 to work on behalf of residents of Streeterville by preserving, promoting and enhancing the quality of life and community in the neighborhood whose current boundaries are Chicago River, East Lake Shore Drive/Oak Street, Lake Michigan and Rush Street; and

WHEREAS, SOAR volunteers are organized to work effectively with allied community groups, public officials, developers, business entities, health care, educational, cultural and recreational institutions, and other Streeterville stakeholders; and

WHEREAS, the many hundreds of talented and dedicated volunteers who have served SOAR over four decades set an example for the City, the nation and the world; and

WHEREAS, the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents will mark their 40th anniversary at the BLUEPRINTs Gala at the Museum of Contemporary Art on Friday, September 25; and

WHEREAS, Special honors will be bestowed upon internationally renowned Chicago architect Dirk Lohan and Helen Dunbeck; and

WHEREAS, Alderman Brian Hopkins, Ward 2, and Alderman Brendan Reilly, Ward 42, serve as Honorary Co-Chairs of the event,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, RAHM EMANUEL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO, do hereby proclaim Friday, September 25, 2015, to be STREETERVILLE ORGANIZATION OF ACTIVE RESIDENTS DAY IN CHICAGO to honor the achievements and energy of this neighborhood group and encourage residents to work with their elected officials and other stakeholders to improve the quality of life in communities throughout the City.
