WhistleStop Program and Safety Tips

SOAR's Safety and Sound Task Force chaired by Bob Johnson has produced two flyers to give SOAR members and Streeterville residents tips on staying and keeping safe. Both of these were distributed at the the Safety Forum SOAR presented on May 30th. The Safety Forum featured representatives from the Chicago Police Department, 18th District; Northwestern University Police and a supervisory special Agent from the FBI. We will be hosting this event next year and will post details on our website as well as social media.

WhistleStop Program
The WhistleStop program is a neighborhood initiative that was originally developed in Hyde Park. This is an action safety program that provides our residents with a practical way to protect yourself and your neighbors on the street.

Click here to download a pdf of the WhistleStop flyer which details how the program works. Whistles are available free to SOAR members. If you are a member you can stop by the office anytime from 9-5pm Monday through Friday. Whistles are also available at the SOAR Farmers Market on Tuesdays through October 31st. Whistles are free to members and if not a member then the suggested donation is $2.00.

Safety Tips Flyer
We also handed out a flyer that gives general safety tips for keeping safe in your home, walking in the neighborhood, when parking and using the CTA. This also give guidelines on when to call 311 and when to call 911.
